What is a Cochlear Implant?
A life-changing option when hearing aids aren’t enough
For some people, hearing aids aren’t enough to provide clear and meaningful sound. That’s where cochlear implants come in.
A cochlear implant is a small, sophisticated medical device that bypasses the damaged parts of the inner ear and directly stimulates the auditory nerve, allowing sound signals to reach the brain.
Cochlear implants can make it easier to understand speech, enjoy conversations with family, and connect with the world of sound again. They’re often recommended when hearing aids no longer provide enough benefit.
How Cochlear Implants Work.
A two-part system that brings sound to life
A cochlear implant has two main components:

-
An external sound processor that sits behind the ear and picks up sound from the environment.
-
An internal implant that is surgically placed under the skin, which converts those sounds into electrical signals and delivers them to the auditory nerve.
Together, these parts allow the brain to interpret sound signals more effectively than with damaged natural hearing alone.
